Letter T
How to write the letter T in cursive
Capital T runs from line 1 down to line 3. Small t starts at line 1 and comes down to line 3. This is the four-line ruling in the school notebook: line 1 the ceiling, line 3 the writing line, line 4 for tails. Trace the model, then write the pair yourself.

Free starter pack, capitals A to H
The free 11 page pack does not include T. It covers capitals A to H, so you can see the four-line format before choosing the A to Z book.
Where T and t sit on the four lines
- Capital T
- Line 1 down to line 3. Two spaces tall.
- Small t
- Tall. Line 1 down to line 3, with the body between lines 2 and 3.
- Height group
- Tall, see the height groups explained.
Does your child's small t look just like l in the school notebook? Start with one correction: small t is tall, but it must stop short of line 1. Then add the crossbar at line 2.

Write capital T in 3 steps
Use four-line Indian ruling so your child can see where each stroke starts and stops.
- Start with a curve near line 1.
- Bring the main stroke down to line 3, ending with a small curve to the right.
- Add the crossbar near the top.
Keep the bottom curve small. It should finish the letter neatly, not turn into a large loop.
Write small t in 3 steps
- Start the stem below line 1. Small t is shorter than l, d and h.
- Bring the stem down to line 3 and hook it to the right.
- Add the crossbar at line 2, level with the tops of a, c and n.
Draw the stem first and cross it afterwards. This helps your child keep the slant steady.
The mistake to correct first
If every t reaches line 1, another full page may repeat the same mistake. Ask your child to write lt as a pair and compare the heights.
- l reaches line 1.
- t stops below line 1.
- The t crossbar sits at line 2.
Once that difference is clear, check the small right-hand hook at line 3.

Questions parents ask about T
Should small t be as tall as l?
No. Small t stops short of line 1. Practising lt side by side makes the height difference easier to see.
Where should the small t crossbar go?
At line 2, level with the tops of small letters such as a, c and n. Add it after drawing the stem.
Does the free pack include T?
No. The free 11 page starter pack covers capitals A to H. It lets you try the four-line practice before choosing a paid book.
How do I receive the free pack?
Submit the email form on the free-pack page. The pack is emailed in about a minute.
How tall should capital T and small t be on four-line ruling?
Capital T fills the two spaces from line 1 down to line 3. Small t is a tall letter, so its stem also starts at line 1, but the body stays in the middle space between lines 2 and 3. If the two end up the same height, that is what to correct first.
